Celebrities play for Cotlands

FOURWAYS- Hip-hop star HHP and a host of celebrity friends battled it out in the Celebrity Scrabble Challenge: Soapie Edition in aid of Cotlands toy libraries.

Cotlands is a non-profit organisation which provides effective health, psychosocial and early learning play-based development opportunities to help South African children thrive.

The organisation has instituted early childhood development programmes which are delivered through community-based play sessions and active learning toy libraries. Through this programme Cotlands is able to reach children who have no access to early childhood development centres.

The purpose of the celebrity scrabble challenge was to raise funds for the organisation as well as to highlight the importance of playing to learn, and learning to play.

The celebrity guests for the day included singers, rappers and TV personalities on Team HHP and friends, as well as DJs from SAfm and Kaya FM.

However, it was the casts of popular soapies Muvhango, Rhythm City and Fourways’ very own resident soapie 7de Laan, which is filmed in Lonehill, who stole the show.

Celebrities were put through their paces with two scrabble matches to earn points both for themselves and for their teams. Spectators and fans at home could also join in the fun by SMSing the name of their favourite team to add extra points to the final score. Children from Cotlands also competed on the day and held their own against each other and the adult celebrities.

In the end it was Madonsela Sinethamba from Cotlands who won in the children’s category.

Team HHP and friends was the winning team, mainly due to the incredible score of 640 achieved by lyricist Jack Moruthane, who won the overall title of best player and the highest scoring word for the day.
