Load shedding: Not all affected in Fourways

FOURWAYS- Load shedding across Johannesburg on 6 March left some Fourways residents in the dark, but for others it was business as usual.

Chartwell-based animal shelter, Ark Animal Centre, had no electricity for most of the day. The problem was compounded by the fact that their phone lines and Internet were also offline and they had limited cellphone reception. This threw a spanner in the works for the shelter in terms of communicating with supporters of the shelter and people wanting to adopt puppies.

Candice Eilertsen of the shelter admitted that it was an inconvenience but added that everything happens for a reason.

Dainfern College was one of the schools in the area that lost power during the day. Luckily the school is not reliant on technology in classrooms, so pupils had to learn the old-fashioned way: with blackboards and chalk. However a representative from the school did admit that administration came to a halt.

Residents of Diepsloot seemed to have evaded the load shedding as residents said they had not experienced power outages at all on 6 March.
