Laan actress keeps arts alive

LONEHILL – Taking a break from filming at 7de Laan's Studio Park studios, Vinette Ebrahim is set to dazzle on stage again.

Loved and revered for playing motherly Charmaine Meintjies in the popular TV show, Ebrahim is going back to her roots at this year’s Klein Karoo Nationale Kunstefees with Die ongelooflike Reis van Max en Lola.

It is the whimsical tale of 80-year-old Max, a gay man, and his coloured and boisterous 79-year-old friend Lola.

Their 50-year long relationship began when their friendship was deemed morally inappropriate, but as time moved on their love of film kept them together.

The moving comedy was co-penned by Ebrahim and Hugo Taljaard.

The play is set on the evening of Max’s birthday, where Lola is the only guest to arrive. As the evening progresses they celebrate on their own, and the audience gets to know two eccentric characters sure to be revered in the future.

For the past three years, Ebrahim has been on a constant high after the success of her play My naam is Ellen Pakkies.

In Die ongelooflike Reis van Max en Lola she is set to mesmerise with her same acting approach – and, it is her writing debut.

But her loyal 7de Laan followers need not worry, the actress will not be disappearing from the screen anytime soon. With the show shot two months in advance, it offers Ebrahim the chance to take on passion projects between filming.
