Pedal power for personnel

FOURWAYS- Fourways Airconditioning treats staff to new modes of transport.

Although Cosmo City is only some 10 kilometres from work, workers still have to get up at 5am to catch taxis in order to get to work on time at 8am.

The afternoon holds similar delays, with staff facing long queues to catch taxis back home.

This is why Richard Perry and Graeme Takis of Fourways Airconditioning put their heads together and came up with the solution – bicycles.

They provided their warehouse staff with bicycles fitted with reflectors and lights for visibility, and equipped them with helmets, repair kits, pumps and gloves.

Perry said, “Either they take taxis or they walk the 10 kilometres to and from work. Not only are taxis costly, but the delays in queuing for them, or the walking, takes away from our employees’ family time at home. Now, with the bicycles they are able to get up later, get home to their families earlier – and save money. We provided helmets for them and asked them to ride as a group to ensure their safety.”
