Policeman’s dedication pays off

DOUGLASDALE- The hard work and dedication of Detective Constable Maharaj Ramatavhana involving rape cases from 2011 has finally paid off.

Ramatavhana was investigating cases of rape which occurred on 16 April 2011 and 11 May 2011 when an anonymous call on 17 May 2011 gave him a lead on a man who matched the description of the suspect.

Ramatavhana swiftly arrested the suspect, Gift Munyai, at his home in Musawawa squatter camp on 18 May 2011.

Munyai was charged with seven counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances and two counts of attempted rape.

Ramatavhana followed the case up until it finally went to court this year: Munyai was sentenced to nine life sentences, 105 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances and 20 years for attempted rape.
