Birthday wish helps pawed friends
JOBURG- Fourways resident and animal lover, Deryse de Faria decided to use her birthday wish this year to help some pawed friends in need through the Paws R Us organisation.
Before De Faria’s birthday a few of her friends contacted her to ask what she wanted for her birthday.
“I realised that instead of the proverbial birthday presents, I preferred them to give something that could be used for the community,” De Faria said.
She contacted the Paws R Us organisation and asked them what they needed. Since the organisation was desperately in need of pet food, De Faria suggested to her friends that they all give her packets of pet food for her birthday.
Paws R Us is an organisation based on informing, uniting and mobilising animal lovers across South Africa. As part of their efforts Paws R Us collects pet food for the fostering programmes that their volunteers run as well as to distribute to various animal shelters, mainly the SPCA.
De Faria dropped off the well-deserved donation of dog food with Linda Grimmer, a Paws R Us volunteer and dog foster parent.
De Faria said, “I hope that others in the community might also be inspired to use their birthdays or other celebrations to benefit their community.”
