William Nicol intersections – approach with caution

JOBURG - Johannesburg Roads Agency said the traffic lights on William Nicol Drive are working effectively.

This comes after two accidents occurred in one week. Two police vans collided with a black Toyota opposite Rosebank Union Church on the corner of William Nicol Drive and St Andrews Road on 8 January. On 9 January, fifteen people were injured when a taxi overturned on the corners of William Nicol and Sandton drives. The exact causes of the accidents are not yet known. “Our information indicates that the [traffic lights at the] intersections are in perfect working condition,” said the roads agency’s Bertha Peters-Scheepers.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter said residents and motorists in the area have complained about the traffic lights on William Nicol Drive, but the roads agency addressed the complaints.

The two accidents caused damage to a number of vehicles and traffic lights. People involved in the accidents were also injured.

ER24 communications manager Werner Vermaak said motorists must take extreme care when approaching the William Nicol and Sandton drives intersection. The Parkview Police Station is still investigating the accident that took place on the corner of William Nicol Drive and St Andrews Road.

The roads agency encourages residents to report road and storm water issues to 0860 562 874, hotline@jra.org.za, or twitter @MyJra.
