Mourners ignore Zuma

JOBURG- Crowds at the Nelson Mandela memorial service showed a blatant disregard for President Jacob Zuma by turning their backs to him during his speech.

After being booed by the crowd earlier at the memorial service, crowds continued to boo Zuma when he took to the podium to make his address.

The choir burst into song to mask the booing and heckling.

Reflecting on Mandela’s universal impact, Zuma said that everyone has had a Mandela moment as he touched their lives.

Zuma said that South African should be proud to have lived in Mandela’s lifetime.

He announced that the Union Building’s amphitheatre will be renamed Nelson Mandela amphitheatre, to which the crowd erupted.

Several people left the stadium shortly after US President Barack Obama’s tribute to Nelson Mandela, missing Zuma’s tribute.
