Councilor helps to bridge the gap

The issue of the partially collapsed bridge on Witkoppen Road (Crumbling bridge makes locals edgy, Fourways Review, week ending 8 November) has been taken up by ward councillor David Potter of Ward 102.

Potter has been communicating with the Gauteng department of roads and transport and was assured that the matter had been prioritised.

The department said while the collapse of the bridge was unforeseen and not in the plans and budget for the year, a plan and budget had now been put together to fix the damage. A scoping report submission had been submitted and approved, and the preliminary design drawing for the bridge had been completed and forwarded to the department of water affairs. Tender advertising for the construction of the bridge started on 31 October.

It is anticipated that the construction period for the bridge should take four months.
