Young star pays it forward

FOURWAYS- Fourways resident Shannon Webb (13) is using her talent for drama and singing to help raise finds for a fellow actor and singer, Reabetsoe Machepha, to attend the ARTS Expo with her in Orlando, USA in June 2014.

Webb is a Grade 7 pupil at Beaulieu Preparatory School and has already recorded her first CD. Machepa recently appeared as a supporting actor in the award-winning South African film Phindile’s Heart.

Webb and Machepha were among 450 contestants who performed at the International Talent Showcase which was held at Montecasino in October (Youngsters vie for top place in talent show, Fourways Review, week ending 1 November 2013). Both performers were noticed by international talent scout Kim Myers, the director of the ARTS Expo.

They are represented by Sandton-based Caitlin’s Casting Character agency. They have been attending auditions and rehearsals together since they were young and have formed a strong bond.

While Webb’s family can afford the ticket to America for the ARTS Expo, Machepa was not as fortunate. Realising this Webb has been using both her entrepreneurial spirit and great talent to raise money for Machepa’s flight through performances, donations and golf days so that both the young performers can live out their dreams on an international stage.

  1. Good initiative, great to see young actors wanting to support each other. This is inspirational and all south Africans should support it.
