Mr ADT to the rescue

GLENFERNESS- Mr ADT visited the pupils of 100 Acre School in Glenferness to teach them home safety skills in a fun, entertaining and non-threatening way.

Reowned entertainer, Darrin McDowell who takes on the character of Mr ADT focused on important issues while also delighting the pupils with funny jokes and props.

Some of the topics included not ingesting any pills or liquids without asking your parents first, dangers in the kitchen and the danger of electrocution, fire safety, how to behave around dogs, the danger of playing with guns and what to do in the case of a home invasion.

The children were also educated on what constituted good and bad touching, how to use panic alarm buttons, not to open the door to strangers, and the importance of knowing a parent’s contact details and other emergency numbers.

“Unfortunately in South Africa there is no escape from conversations about crime,” said Clive Humphrey, managing director of ADT central.

“Children are never too young to be educated and made aware of the dangers that exist in our society. They need to be empowered to be able to protect themselves in a dangerous situation.”
