Security companies create jobs

FOURWAYS - Security company ADT is calling on the unemployed to pursue a career in private security.

Referring to the various jobs within the private security industry, ADT highlighted that out-of-work individuals, including matriculants with no qualifications or work experience, could be trained and employed by companies like itself.

Clive Humphrey, ADT Central Region managing director, said, “There are many different job opportunities in the private security industry including technical support, call centre positions, armed guarding, and administration. Many security companies will assist with training to ensure employees meet with the stringent regulations that the industry has to adhere to.”

Mentioning ADT’s courses, Humphrey said the two-year technical leadership course trained learners in the practical and theoretical aspects of installation, fault finding and programming security systems.

Candidates who complete this course would receive a National Qualification Framework (NQF) level 4.

Humphrey added that completing such courses not only offers candidates job opportunities but creates a platform for learners to progress within the organisation.

He explained that at ADT most of the learners who completed the technical leadership course were employed as installation technicians and can thereafter pursue senior positions like technical inspectors.

Alternatively, they could opt to study further and become assessors by the Education Training Development Practice Sector Education Training Authority.

ADT also offers learnerships in its contact centre and training in armed response.

Humphrey advised those who are interested in a career in the private security sector to inquire about such opportunities with the human resources department at security companies.

He added that candidates should ensure that they meet the requirements in order to apply for the course and that they have their academic records at hand.

Pointing out that many of the programmes offered commence in January, he advised candidates not to wait until the new year to research their options and apply.
