Grow your Mo and show support
It’s that time of year again when South Africa’s Mo Bros, supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, embark on a hairy journey to Change the Face of Men’s Health.
Movember is an international movement to help raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer and male mental health.
In South Africa, the Movember campaign has partnered with the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) where funds raised from each campaign are allocated towards men’s health survivorship and research programmes.
In 2012 more than 30 000 South African Mo Bros and Mo Sistas registered for the cause for the month. These efforts resulted in over R7 million being raised for local prostate and testicular survivorship and research programmes developed and managed with CANSA.
Official Movember rules for growing and grooming a Mo:
- Every year Mo Bros and Sistas have to re-register on Movember.com.
- Each Mo Bro must begin the 1st of Movember with a clean-shaven face.
- For the entire month of Movember each Mo Bro must grow and groom a moustache.
- There is to be no joining of the Mo to your side burns. That’s considered a beard.
- There is to be no joining of the handlebars to your chin. That’s considered a goatee.
- Each Mo Bro must conduct himself like a true gentleman.

Everyone’s favourite lawman sports this classic Western moustache, which impresses with not only its length but its thickness.
Charlie Chaplin
Here Charlie Chaplain can be seen with his low maintenance toothbrush moustache.
Hulk Hogan
This famous wrestler rocks the horseshoe moustache, also known as a ‘biker moustache’, arguably one of the most masculine options for Movember.
Salvidor Dali
For the more flamboyant Movember participants the Dali Moustache is sure to hit the mark by being as bizarre and striking as the artist’s surrealist works.
Albert Einstein
Theory of relativity developer, Nobel Peace Prize winner, and an amazing moustache to boot. Some people just have it all. So for the ‘eccentric genius look’ why not try The Einstein?
