Chana shooting cop in court

FOURWAYS - The case against a police officer arrested in connection with the kidnapping which resulted in the shooting of rapper Khulani Morule a.k.a Khuli Chana has been postponed to November.

The officer was one of the kidnappers who had abducted a Tanzanian Businessman, Ali Haji.

He was caught in the bathroom of a Caltex garage in Midrand collecting the ransom that was dropped off for Haji’s release.

Morule a.k.a Khuli Chana was shot on the N1 off-ramp in Midrand on 28 October, after police officers mistook his car for that of one of the suspects involved in the kidnapping.

The officers fired six shots at Morule’s car, injuring his finger and a bullet shrapnel hit his back.

Morule (31) was on his way to a gig in Pretoria, driving a blue BMW, according to his manager Refiloe Ramogase, he drove in to the Caltex filling station at New Road, Midrand.

Gauteng police spokesperson Lungelo Dlamini said the Hawks had received intelligence indicating the kidnapper was driving a grey BMW.

The rapper was shortly shot at after allegedly failing to stop at the blockade of police vehicles on the N1 off-ramp.

The musician maintains that the police were in an unmarked vehicle and that they opened fire without warning.

However, witnesses claimed Morule tried to run over officers when they tried to flag down his car and Morule has since denied the claims.

Attempted murder charges have since been laid against the officers.
