Sun Valley domestics to ward off crime

SUN VALLEY - The October domestic watch meeting in Sun Valley will take place on 24 October at 11am at La Fiontina.

Domestic watch and police customer service trainer Penny Steyn, of the Making A Difference campaign, said the topic was, Who is attacking you and what to do.

Steyn said, “It would appear to some that the criminals appear to be winning the war (on crime). Why? Because they keep coming up with more innovative ways of attacking all good citizens of South Africa. Our country’s recent crime stats are shouting, ‘Know better – know what to do to prevent crime, and help the police with the crime challenge’. It is essential to keep abreast of their modi operandi.”

She said educated, empowered, and motivated domestic workers and gardeners are key to preventing “the horrors we continue to endure”.

She also reminded domestic workers that the certificate of attendance and year-end ceremony would be held on 21 November at Rosebank Union Church, corner William Nicol and Sandton Drive, Hurlingham, and tickets could be purchased at the October meeting.

There will be 20 suburbs in attendance and Faith Mazibuko of the Department of Safety and Security has agreed to attend.
