Moore needs you

PAULSHOF - Ward 106 councillor, Stephen Moore has opened the door for conversation over issues in his ward.

Moore has proposed community input regarding the Integrated Development Plan for the ward. The plan is a single, inclusive and strategic document in which Johannesburg metro’s future is mapped over the short, medium and long term. Issues that are considered include spatial planning, disaster management, finances, performance targets and economic development.

“If you are looking for an even simpler way of explaining it, the Integrated Development Plan is the plan that decides how and on what the City spends its money,” Moore said.

Moore already has his eyes on a few projects he would like to see included in the plan for Ward 106 such as upgrading the water and sewage reticulation system in Woodmead, Khyber Rock and Gallo Manor. The upgrading of Bryanston Drive to include an extra lane each way to facilitate greater traffic volumes would also be on his agenda.

Providing housing for legitimate Clay Oven squatters and then rehabilitating and securing the site is another project Moore would like to see raised.

He is also lobbying support for upgrades to Rietfontein Nature Reserve and to have funding allocated for a park ranger to work in parks and open spaces in the ward.

Other suggestions from the community included resurfacing Troupant Avenue, speed bumps on St James Crescent, repairing fencing, and securing public-owned open spaces such as the open plot near the N1 in Petervale and unsecured provincial land in Klevehill Park.

There was also a call to upgrade pedestrian access across the Braamfontein Spruit and Sandspruit.

“The actual selection of what the priority projects are is a democratic process that takes place in my ward committee meetings. The community

representatives get to decide what are the core priorities for Ward 106,” Moore said.

“Basically if it is a concern, send it through and we’ll add it to the list,” he added.

The plan was to push for priority projects that cannot be put on the back burner any longer.
