Paulshof Hill’s zero tolerance for crime

PAULSHOF HILL - The working group of the Paulshof Hill Residents Association held a meeting for all residents of Paulshof Hill at the Mugg and Bean at Cambridge Crossing.

The working group was formed five years ago by residents who were concerned about the increased criminal activity in the area.

The meeting had a very good turnout, which the working group’s chairperson, Lita Jacobsen, identified as a sign that Paulshof Hill residents wanted to be involved in the upliftment and maintenance of their area.

The purpose of the meeting was to bring together all residents from Paulshof Hill to propose the formation of a formal residents’ association in the form of a Section 21 company, as well as to discuss the criminal activity in the area. The working group also asked for nominations for residents who would like to become part of the Paulshof Hill Residents Association.

Jacobsen said, “In no way are we breaking away from the Paulshof Residents Association. We are simply trying to form an organisation that deals primarily with our area and our issues but serves as a branch of the Paulshof Residents Association.”

Jacobsen explained that a change was needed in the area in terms of proactive policing and a zero-tolerance attitude towards crime.

The working group proposed a three-phase plan to stop crime in the area.

Jacobsen explained that phase one would be a dedicated community patrol vehicle that patrols 24 hours a day. Phase two would be CCTV cameras that would all be linked to a central communications station. Phase three would be the installation of an access control boom gate, however Jacobsen said that this idea was still under consideration and would depend on the effectiveness of the other two phases.

The proposal was met with generally positive reactions from the residents of Paulshof Hill. Ward 93 councillor, Annette Deppe, also pledged her support of the proposal.
