Now you can run the city

JOBURG - On 12 October, Nike's We Run Jozi is taking over the City of Gold.

This year’s race will also mark the 10km post-race celebration, set to rock Mary Fitzgerald Square with live performances from South Africa’s hottest music acts.

For the expected 10 000 runners who will cross the finish line, the post-race celebrations include live performances by electronic duo Goldfish, and ChianoSky, who mixes seductive jazz and pop.

The two acts will be the finale in what is set to be a lively experience of music and entertainment for runners, from start to finish. Adding to the race programme is the much-hyped about route split, with half of the field running ‘Move Uptown’ and the other half ‘Move Downtown’, with them merging halfway into the race.

A portion of the race fee is automatically donated to the development of Alex Butterflies, a running development programme for children in primary schools between the ages of 7 and 12 years.

The programme, managed by professional coaches, seeks to inspire children to be physically active and to develop them holistically through the introduction of running in a fun and safe environment.

Alex Butterflies was founded with the proceeds from Nike’s We Run Jozi 10km race held last year, in which 20 000 runners ran from Sandton to the heart of Alexandra.
