Sex trade on her doorstep

FOURWAYS - A resident of Timsrand has been plagued daily by the sex trade - right outside her front gates.

According to the resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, prostitution is an everyday occurrence in Impala Road.

Impala Road is just off Summit Road, which is a busy main road between Diepsloot and Midrand.

She said, “The girls get dropped off by a luxury vehicle at around lunchtime everyday. During that time vehicles come off the main road into Impala Road and the girls see these clients until about 5pm.”

According to the resident, the vehicles that stop for the women range from trucks to BMWs and SUVs.

She even claimed to have witnessed “girls” servicing “clients” in the fields next to her house.

She said, “I don’t care what they do but my young grandchild lives with me. I don’t want her to be exposed to this kind of thing.”

Even more distressing, she alleged, was that there are often scuffles with “clients” and pimps.

She said, “Just the other day there were gunshots fired outside because a client was having an argument with a pimp… a bullet could ricochet and hit one of us inside the house.”

She added, “I actually feel sorry for these girls. They stand here the whole day, see client after client and don’t even wash. I can only imagine the diseases that are being spread.”

A Fourways Review journalist investigating the story was approached by a group of women while she was driving on Impala Road, as they mistook her for a potential “client”.

The women exposed themselves to the journalist and walked towards the vehicle but when they realised that the journalist was holding a camera one of them attacked the vehicle, punching the window.

Lieutenant-Colonel Katlego Mogale, provincial spokesperson for the South African Police Services said that the Olievenhoutbosch police are aware of the prostitution that is taking place at the mentioned road.

A number of operations have been conducted in and around the area. This has resulted in more than 19 arrests since August.

“We are also following up on the vehicles that are alleged to be dropping the women off,” she said. Patrols and sector policing are also continuing with operations in the area.

Mogale said, “Police are working hard to prevent and curb this problem in the areas and are appealing to members of the communities not to utilise the prostitutes in the area.”
