Eye Witness News has said that the attempted robbery and shoot-out that occured in Fourways on 28 September was linked to a Nigerian diplomat, who was driving home from OR Tambo International Airport.
According to the news website, the Diplomat asked his driver and security to pick him up from the airport and take him to his daughter’s house.
When the security officers realised a armed robbery was in progress, they opened fire, killing one of the suspects.
Police are still searching for three suspects who fled the scene with luggage and an undisclosed amount of money.

ER24 spokesperson Vanesssa Jackson confirmed that one man was treated for injuries on the corner of Stangster Road and Troupand Avenue, before being transported to the Sunninghill Hospital.
An unofficial source said the shootout was the result of an attempted robbery in the area. “This morning at around 6am I heard several gunshots and car tyres screeching. I called ADT, who later said ‘they responded to an armed robbery along Troupand Avenue.”
The man said he believed a white BMW with two suspects inside, followed a shuttle service from the airport and tried to rob them. “The driver of the shuttle service opened fire, killing one of the suspects and wounding the other,” he said.
The man said he believed the driver was also shot during the attempted robbery.
Jackson confirmed that the man was treated and was stable, but could not say if he had been shot.
Warrant Officer Balan Muthan of the Douglasdale Police Station said he was looking into the alleged robbery.
ADT was not available for comment.
