Gym marathon for Layla

SUNNINGHILL - The Raising Hope for Layla non-profit organisation held a gym marathon at Dreambody Fitness in Sunninghill.

Raising Hope for Layla was started by Sharyn O’Neill with her friends and family after her daughter, Layla, was diagnosed with a rare condition called Neuroplasm Glial Ependymoma (Fourways Review, week ending 14 September).

Layla needs R2.8 million in order to undergo proton therapy at the MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Texas.

The gym marathon was a huge success with droves of people from the community coming out to support Layla by doing a combination of hip-hop, cross core training and spinning.

O’ Neill said, “The response from the community has been overwhelming. We’ve received so many donations to help with Layla’s treatment. We’re still a long way off but definitely closer to our goal.”
