Raise some hope for Layla

A fundraising event for four-year-old Layla O' Neill who suffers from a rare condition will be held on 23 September at The Brazen Head Fourways.

A day after Layla was diagnosed with neuroplasm glial ependymoma her friends and family formed the Raising Hope for Layla non-profit organisation which hosts fundraising events for Layla’s treatment.

She has a tumour on her brain and several on the inside of her spine.

Layla’s mother, Sharyn said, “Removing the tumours surgically could paralyse Layla for life and she will not be able to undergo radiation therapy due to her age.”

Layla’s family are resting their hopes on an experimental treatment called proton therapy that is only available at the MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Texas.

The treatment alone will cost Layla’s family a minimum of R 2.8 million. “We are running out of time as Layla’s condition is worsening, but I will not give up. My daughter will receive this treatment,” she said.

Join Raising Hope for Layla for a Halfway to St Patrick’s Day event with a performance by Dave Monks, South Africa’s number one Irish entertainer at The Brazen Head.
