Police gather over a potjie

BROADACRES - Used to cracking the whip on crime, arresting drug dealers and pot smokers, Douglasdale police station members took a break by relaxing next to the fire as part of the Douglasdale Community Police Forum's What's Cooking Potjiekos competition.

The competition saw police, the community and various businesses engage with each other to promote a safer community, while they vied to cook the best potjie and raise funds for the policing forum.

Music and entertainment, roaming microphones and prizes were the order of the day at Broadacres Lifestyle Centre, and even provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Mzwandile Petros visited the competition.

Other teams included Tsogo Sun, Life Healthcare, RSS Security and Fidilety that cooked various potjiekos. After the competition, community policing forum chairman Jean Berdou and his team distributed food parcels of potjiekos to informal settlements.

Teams had to pay R2 000 to take part with the money going toward the forum’s ongoing efforts to rid the area of crime.
