Zuma and ANC at crossroads

Will Jacob Zuma and the ANC survive to lead South Africa after the 2014 general election?

Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela said her report into the multi-million rand development at Zuma’s private home in Nkandla will be released in a matter of days.

Even with his duck and dive tendencies, Zuma knows he many not be able to escape the claws of the Public Protector, who has turned into one of the most feared corruption busters in the democratic South Africa.

As if the Nkandla-gate was not bad enough, reports from Waterkloof Air Force Base indicate that the President was a central figure in the Gupta plane landing scandal.

Zuma must now answer before the military court, and if he’s not on the State’s witness list, then the defence team will subpoena him.

There is the arms deal probe currently underway, as well as the spy tapes saga that paved the way for him to be President. If Zuma had to stand trial on various counts of racketeering, money laundering, corruption and fraud, he wouldn’t have become President.

Other matters such as e-tolling, the Central African Republic military  scandal,  secrecy bill, sour relations with labour union federation Cosatu, and several cases of misconduct against top officials in his administration would be the demise of any leader.

The political life of South Africa’s first citizen reads like a Hollywood script. Time will tell just how many lives Zuma has or if the ANC, with a guaranteed majority in Parliament, will opt for someone else as a presidential candidate.
