Policing forum to cook up a storm

DOUGLASDALE - Douglasdale Community Policing Forum will show the community that it has other talents than just crime fighting.

The forum will host a potjiekos competition, What’s Cooking, and they are challenging Douglasdale police, community members and themselves to a cook-off.

The forum’s chairperson Jean Berdou said, “The day is aimed at building positive relations between all sectors of the community and the police.”

The event is scheduled for 31 August from 9am to 4pm at the Broadacres Shopping Centre and families are welcome to spend the day with the forum and police to build relations and improve security. There will be entertainment for all ages and stalls to browse, but the potjie competition will take centre stage.

Teams of four people must raise at least R2 000 in order to enter the competition. Gas, pots and tables will be supplied.

Some of these meals will be sold to raise funds and the rest will be distributed to the less privileged in informal settlements within the Douglasdale policing domain. Douglasdale police will hand out the meals to the township residents to build relations. “This will ensure that people in the informal settlements will go to sleep with a nutritious meal in their stomachs,” said Berdou.

More sponsorships, stall holders and donations were needed.
