Officer Reddy laid to rest

VORNA VALLEY - Warrant Officer Selvan Reddy was laid to rest on 20 July at the Waterfall Cemetery after a moving funeral service at Vorna Valley's Acts Church.

Reddy was a prolific figure in the Kyalami community, dedicated to bringing down drug dealers, thieves and poachers.

He worked closely with the President Park Residents Association as well as the Sector 4 Crime Forum.
Midrand police Station Commander, Colonel Steven Moodley said of Reddy, “He had been with us just over a year but in that time he made a significant difference. He was committed and dedicated to the fight against drugs. What he did in one year others can’t accomplish in 20. He was very popular with the staff and community and very unpopular with criminals.”

Reddy had suffered two heart attacks and fought a brave battle in ICU for two weeks before eventually succumbing.
Sun Valley resident Mandy Collins, who worked closely with Reddy, said she was absolutely devastated. “He has done so much for the conservancy, it is a very sad loss,” she said.

The speeches by his family and friends gave the impression of loving family man, a dedicated police officer, and a wonderful friend whose love for his community never faltered.

Reddy was also instrumental in the collection and donation of food and blankets to needy families in the Kaalfontein area.
Steve Johnstone, chairperson of Midrand Sector 1 CPF said, “Warrant Officer Reddy was dedicated and beyond reproach. Even on his off-days he was just a phone call away. He’s left a big void in the community and a legacy – and big boots to fill for his successor.”

President Park Residents Association chairperson, John Gainsford, said, “Standing at Reddy’s burial site at the Waterfall Cemetery I thought it very apt that our officer would still be watching over us, across the valley in President Park. His uncompromising concern for our community will be missed. Reddy was always available 24/7, even picking up distress calls after hours. Thank You Warrant Officer Reddy. We will continue your legacy, working together and fighting crime.”
