UPDATE: Well known police officer dies

KYALAMI - A Midrand police officer, who was active in the Kyalami area, has passed away.

A memorial in honour of Warrant Officer Selvan Reddy will be held on 19 July at 11 am at the Memorial Gardens, South African police office, Oracle Close, in Waterfall Gardens, Midrand.

A funeral service will be held the following day at 10 am at the Acts Church, Pretorius Drive, Vorna Valley, Midrand. At the Sector 4 Crime Forum meeting, forum chairperson, Takis Michalakis expressed his sadness at the loss of Reddy.

“Reddy was a great soldier in our area and it is a great loss for the team to lose him,” said Michalakis.

According to Takis Michalakis, chairman of the Midrand Sector 4 Crime Forum, Warrant Officer Selvan Reddy suffered from a heart attack a few days ago. “Whilst he was in good care and fought bravely for his life he succumbed and passed away,” Michalakis said.

Reddy was a brave and noble police officer who was known for his fight against drug dealers in the Midrand area. He was also known for his work within the Greater Kyalami area, where he was recognised as one of the heroes who fought illegal poaching.

Sun Valley resident Mandy Collins, who worked closely with Reddy, said she was absolutely devastated. “He has done so much for the conservancy, it is a very sad loss.”

Michalakis said the funeral would be held at the Acts Church in Pretorius Street, Vorna Valley.

  1. Such a sad day. Warrant Officer Reddy was an amazing man who was doing wonders in the community.
    He always had a smile on his face. He will be greatly missed!
