Amazing children help an amazing shelter

CHARTWELL - Members Ark Animal Centre, a puppy shelter in Chartwell, said they have had the privilege of meeting three exceptional children over the past few weeks.

Social media and fundraising manager at the animal shelter, Candice Eilertsen, said the centre was absolutely blessed and inspired by Geoffrey Steel, Teagan Anderson and Liam (whose surname is not known to Ark Animal Centre). Steel arrived at Ark Animal Centre with R250 of his pocket money that he had saved up and donated it to Ark. “We explained to him that he can buy five bricks and have his name on our wall and you should have seen his biggest smile ever,” Eilertsen said.

Ark Animal Centre is selling bricks at R50 each to help raise money to build their new shelter.

Teagan Anderson was named as an exceptional child by Ark after celebrating her eleventh birthday and asking her guests to give her money, which she then donated to Ark Animal Centre. Anderson brought R1 000 worth of bricks for Ark, and will have her name written on their wall.

Lastly, Liam arrived at Ark Animal Centre bearing presents for the puppies which he had collected for his birthday. Liam had just celebrated his sixth birthday and asked his friends for goodies for the shelter instead of gifts. “He arrived at Ark with a boot load full of food, toys, treats and blankets for our pups,” Eilertsen said.

“I just can’t get over how they can be so giving and kind in the years when they should be at their most selfish and in the ‘me phase’,” said an amazed Eilertsen.
