Fourways dance academy succeeds internationally

FOURWAYS - Dance team The Brat Pack, from the Kim Field Dance Academy based in Fourways, flew the South African flag high at the 17th edition of the New Prague Dance Festival held in the Czech Republic between 28 June and the 5 July.

“This year, more than ever before, competition and judging was fierce and our dancers had to perform at their peak in order to beat their counterparts who in many instances were in professional dance troupes and were already skilled on degree level at university,” said Christian Pinkerton from the dance academy. “The Brat Pack showed their mettle and managed to achieve astounding results by winning seven trophies,” she said.

The team were awarded first place for the Hip Hop/ jazz category; BidVest Czech Republic Grand Prix for best performance; second place overall for costumes; second place for pedagogy (best teacher) and three of a total of only eight trophies on offer for individual awards in recognition of participants who showed exceptional talent. These trophies were awarded to team members Ntando Georgia, Nyati, Yolanda Mayekiso and Vumile Mphande.

The Brat Pack also had the opportunity to attend dance workshops offered by the university of Prague in their conservatory and national theatre ballet studios. “When taking into account the scale of the event, the above achievements are truly amazing and it shows once again the high level of talent we have in South Africa and how hard work and dedication from teachers as well as pupils pay off,” Pinkerton said .
