Stuntman Caromba is all roped up

FOURWAYS - Even if it doesn't have wheels chances are Marco Caromba has rode on it, likely did stunts on it and definitely had a blast on it.

After starting his heart-racing company Pure Rush Industries in 1994, Caromba is considered at the center of alternative sports in Johannesburg.

Living in Fourways, he travels to Benoni for sandboarding at the weekend, offers rap jumping every month at Anstey’s Building in the heart of the inner city, and is also involved with teaching the art of streetluging in Krugersdorp.

“I’m also owner of JoziX Adventure Centre which has an inflatable park designed for adults, a full mountain boarding park and a bag jump for skateboarders, BMX riders and mountain bikers,” the adrenaline enthusiast said.

But the adventure road doesn’t stop there. Caromba does downhill longboarding, mountain boarding, trike drifting and snowboarding – and it has become a family affair.

“My wife and I met through snowboarding, and we’ve been sandboarding and street luging ever since. Our three year-old son is already longboarding, trike drifting, and is crazy on a bicycle.”

Rap jumping in the inner city has become a highlight of those flocking back to the city and its regeneration. At the end of 2011 Pure Rush started jumping at the historic building, which was once the highest building in Africa. Now, the building is a fix for those seeking to push their limits.
