Laundry list in Ward 96

LION PARK - Road maintenance and service delivery is what Ward 96 is deprived of.

The ward is geographically the largest in the city, and attendees at a ward meeting shared their laundry list of gripes.

Councillor Matome Mafokwane made sure that residents and service delivery departments had open discussions to try and find suitable answers for issues. These meetings are the latest organised by City of Johannesburg to provide a platform for residents to raise concerns.

Johannesburg Roads Agency came under fire for much of the meeting. Road conditions in Millgate Farms, Thabo Mbeki Village, Inadan and Chartwell North led to heated debates.

The roads agency said by the end of June there should be improved roads at Millgate Farms and Thabo Mbeki Village. Potholes on North Road and Spesbona Road in Inadan had been filled and there are plans to resurface the road.
Chartwell North Estates resident Monette Streefkerk said to be effective, decision- makers should come to these meetings.

“It needs to be overseen by them. We have major issues in this ward, and we need to see action. Not just complaints.”

Other issues were illegal dumping and Millgate Farm, Inadan and Lombaryd Road were pointed out as hotspots.
Mafokwane said it was a shame that no delegate from Pikitup was there to give answers.

Another hot topic was a council approved development that is currently under scrutiny by Broadacres residents.

Lombardy Road residents had signed a petition stating that they hadn’t received any notification of public participation to allow the development. “The purpose of the meeting is to get information and for delegates to take information back to the communities,” Mafokwane said.
