Dainfern College celebrates outstanding achievers
DAINFERN – Seven high school children from Dainfern College have shown themselves to be high-achieving in a number of fields when they were awarded their Red Blazers.
The five pillars of a Dainfern College education are academics, cultural arts, sport, service and leadership and the school’s holistic approach to education encourages students to embrace every opportunity on offer at the college across all disciplines.
In line with the motto of ‘celebrate’, Dainfern College recognises and rewards students’ achievements with the award of colours. The highest award that the college can bestow on a schoolchild is College Honours in the form of the Red Blazer.
The Red Blazer celebrates the achievements of those exceptional children who excel across these important areas of college life, and who have achieved a minimum of full colours in at least three of these areas.
They also need to show evidence of their commitment to Dainfern College over a period of time and thus need to have achieved prestige awards in at least two of these areas. In addition to these achievements, children will only be considered for a Red Blazer award if their conduct is exemplary and epitomises the values of the college, and they have completed the required outreach hours (10 hours per year).
The countless hours of commitment and the high level of skills required to achieve across these disciplines show that recipients of the Red Blazer are genuine all-rounders at the highest level, rather than specialists in one field.
Deputy principal Cheryl Coetzee was proud to announce seven Red Blazer awards at the final colours assembly of 2018.
The school congratulates the following students on their Red Blazers:
- Sian Willoughby – full colours for music, leadership and swimming
- Erin van den Heever – honours in academics and leadership; full colours for music and leadership
- Lara Pillay – honours in academics; full colours for leadership, netball and tennis. Pillay was also Dainfern College’s one hundredth Red Blazer recipient
- Tamika Govender – honours in academics; full colours for leadership and public speaking
- Shane Fairweather – provincial colours for indoor hockey; full colours for athletics, leadership, music and performing arts
- Reece Fairweather – provincial colours for indoor hockey; full colours for hockey, leadership and performing arts
- Ewodwa Magqasa – provincial colours for action netball; honours for music ensemble; full colours for academics, performing arts and public speaking.
