NIGEL SZUDRAWSKI: If we are not careful of how we use our water, we might create a situation like day zero in Johannesburg. These suburbs that are using too much water should be fined or pay an extra levy on their bills.
The Fourways Review asked community members their thoughts on neighbouring suburbs that waste water and what will happen if Johannesburg goes to day zero. This is what you had to say …
SHANE RAKGATE: Wasting water carelessly isn’t right because water is a necessity and if we waste water we are going to suffer. Those who waste water need to be educated as to how they can use water wisely.JILL DEWAR: I think our authorities are not doing as much as possible to make people aware how important water is. If we lose water a lot of people will be frustrated and angry so we need to wise up and save water.ELDETTE DAVIS: It is a disgrace for the suburbs that waste a lot of water as we live in a water-scarce country. When we visited my mother in Cape Town we practised water usage methods that we have implemented here in Johannesburg.KHULEKANI NCUBE: It’s not a good thing for people to waste too much water because water is life and we cannot live without it, so we need to preserve it.
