Jukskei River gets a little TLC

FOURWAYS – About 35 members of the Fourways community volunteered their time on 19 May to clean up both the Lonehill and Glenferness sides of the Jukskei River.

The Lonehill and Glenferness communities spent 19 May cleaning up the Jukskei River in support of the A Re Sebetseng initiative.

“We cleaned up both sides of the Jukskei River, both on the Lonehill side and the Glenferness side,” explained David Foley, the councillor for Ward 94 who was present during the cleanup. “There were about 35 volunteers out collecting rubbish, and at the end of the day we had collected about 50 bags of litter.”

The A Re Sebetseng cleanup initiative was launched by Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba in August 2016, which urges residents to take responsibility for the cleanliness and care of their own neighbourhoods.

About 50 bags of rubbish were collected in total by the volunteers.
A Re Sebetseng was launched in August 2016.
The A Re Sebetseng cleanup campaign encourages Johannesburg residents to care for their own environments.
David Foley said the rubbish in the areas focused on, was unbelievable.
A Re Sebetseng takes place on a monthly basis in communities around Johannesburg.
