Water issues – and how to fix them
FOURWAYS - Water issues are keeping Joburg Water on edge.
In Douglasdale, Glynnis Watts said her complex was flooded twice in July, and very little was being done to fix the recurring problem.
“The first complaint was lodged on 3 July and I have phoned every day since, and on occasion have been told it is on the list for
that day,” she said.
In March, Watts reported a similar leak at the complex and it was attended to by Joburg Water.
Spokesperson of the water department, Millicent Kabwe, was asked why there were so many water problems emerging in the area.
Although Kabwe was mute on whether infrastructure was failing in the area, she said it was important for residents to always log water leaks.
She pointed out that the water provider launched their revamped website in an effort to ease communication, by notifying the public of water interruptions or infrastructure upgrades.
The public was asked to sign up to the database, thereby receiving SMS and feedback over issues.
The website also has a tab to report water leaks.
An online form asks the person to give information about the problem, and is sent a reference number when all the fields are filled in.
A reference number is solid proof against the provider when leaks are not attended to, and helpful to follow-up on the problem.
