Crawford raises funds for Mandela Day

LONEHILL - Crawford College Lonehill joined thousands of people across Gauteng to celebrate Mandela Day as they held hands for 67 seconds to the sounds of the Soweto Gospel Choir singing Happy Birthday to Nelson Mandela.

The school’s Community Outreach students embarked on a coin and notes collection for 67 minutes from 6.30am to 7.37am in the car park, when students were dropped off by their parents.

The target was to raise an amount of R6 700 to be used to purchase baby cots for the Ikholwa Orphanage in Weltevreden Park and the Moving Forward Creche in Cosmo City. They were able to raise R7 028.

Pupils were also allowed to wear casual clothes and paid R10 each towards a collection to be used for children of the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation.  Again, the target of R6 700 was raised.
