18-year-old Fourways entrepreneur has his big night, hosting a stunning matric ball at the Leonardo in Sandton

A night of elegance, excitement, and celebration unfolded as matriculants from Fourways and Sandton came together for Santiago Mark Andrew’s inaugural matric ball.

Matriculants from various schools in Fourways and Sandton attended a matric ball hosted by Santiago Mark Andrew, an 18-year-old entrepreneur from Fourways.

What began as a vision transformed into a stunning reality, showcasing the talents and potential of the future leaders of South Africa.

The event drew students eager to make lasting memories as they transitioned from high school to adulthood. Andrew reflected on his experience, stating, “it surpassed my expectations. After years of visualising this concept of a matric ball, it finally came to fruition.”

The ball occurred at The Leonardo in Sandton, the fourth tallest building in Africa. Andrew explained that he saw the Leonardo as the perfect venue for this event because it symbolizes the idea of dreaming big, which has been central to his journey.

“It’s an iconic building symbolizing African progress and innovation. I want this to be etched in the minds of all the matriculants that will be attending to show them that they must not limit their imagination for the years ahead because the sky is not the limit. And lastly, teens spend 12 years pursuing higher education, this event is to celebrate that and their accomplishments.”

As the evening commenced, attendees were greeted at the entrance with a glamorous red carpet, allowing them to feel like true stars as they made their way to the upstairs lobby.

The highlight of the night was undoubtedly the masterful hosting by Mosa Kaiser, a renowned actor and radio personality, who guided the program with charm and charisma.

The culmination of the event occurred when the prestigious titles of prom king and queen were awarded to Daylan Scheepers and Simran Sahib, a moment introduced by Miss World South Africa semi-finalist Zoalize Jansen Van Rensburg.

Guests were treated to a luxurious three course meal as they enjoyed a beautifully curated programme. After the formalities concluded, the ballroom transformed into a lively dance floor, where the energy surged and the memories solidified.

Andrew expressed his vision for the future of the event. “I am planning to make this an annual event; however, I do wish for it to have brand partnerships by reputable organisations and companies.”

His ambition to elevate the matric ball further underlines his commitment to creating a platform that resonates with youth culture and fosters community engagement.

Andrew shared insights about his upcoming plans post-graduation. “Well, firstly I have to finish school and then finally explore the world. I wish to explore new opportunities and find solutions to problems.”

The matric ball was not just a dance, it was a representation of hope, unity, and ambition among South Africa’s youth.
