Beverley Park to bloom with 100 more trees

Following the successful Arbor Day celebrations, which saw 50 trees planted in Beverley Park, Ward 94 Councilor David Foley announces plans to plant an additional 100 indigenous trees along Mulbarton Road.

Following the success of Arbor Day celebrations, which saw 50 trees planted in Beverley Park, the local community is gearing up for an even more ambitious project.

With the rainy season approaching for the young trees to take root and thrive, plans are underway to plant an additional 100 trees along Mulbarton Road to enhance the park’s natural beauty and environmental sustainability even further.

Ward 94 councilor David Foley said that Beverley Park was specifically selected for the tree planting initiative on Arbor Day due to its relatively recent establishment and stark lack of tree coverage.

“We were going to plant even more trees but because the ground is rather hard now because there is no rain, it was hard to work with. But as soon as it starts raining we will start planting more trees in the park to make it beautiful.”

He said they were joined by City Parks who have done good work even though they experienced challenges with digging the ground.

“The trees that we planted are fully indigenous because we don’t plant any syringas or jacarandas. This is an indigenous public park and a defined City Parks park.”

Foley added that they don’t limit tree planting to Arbor Day but instead take advantage of any opportunity to plant trees in the area whenever possible.

“It is just that on Arbor Day we make a big deal out of it, to make sure that residents are involved to come along and enjoy the fun.”

He said what makes the day so fun for him is the fact that they will be able to watch the trees grow, “and that gives you a sense of fulfilment, that you contributed towards a good cause, and planting a tree plays a big role in purifying oxygen because trees give life.”

When asked who would be taking care of the young plants they just planted, Foley said residents in the nearby areas volunteered to help City Parks in making sure that the trees are watered and taken care of until they grow.
