Ntongase Mathabela uses little to turn homes into luxury status symbols

Ntongase Mathabela, a Sunninghill resident, turned her passion for art and design into a successful business, Nto Interiors.

From a young age, Ntongase Mathabela, who resides in Sunninghill, was fascinated by the world of art and design, spending hours painting, drawing, and experimenting with different creative expressions.

With her mom’s encouragement, she turned her own home into a stunning space with limited resources. Although life took her on a different path, with degrees in sports management and business administration, her love for interior design never faded.

Now, she has leveraged social media to share her talents, inspiring countless individuals with her dreamy makeovers, including a stunning shack-to-luxury-bedroom transformation.

Through her journey, Mathabela proved that beautiful design is accessible to all, and her dream has evolved into a successful business, touching hearts and spaces along the way.

“I believe that stunning spaces can be created with limited resources, and I’m committed to making luxurious and beautiful spaces accessible to all.”

Mathabela launched Nto Interiors, to break the barriers which makes interior design seem pricey. She said she believes every home has the potential to be beautifully designed.

“I want to be remembered for making interior design accessible to everyone, regardless of size or budget.”

She said her approach to design is all about infusing the client’s personality into the space while delivering affordable luxury.

“I keep myself updated through extensive research on seasonal styles, following established national and international interior designers, and window shopping for furniture, materials, and accessories. I also listen to design podcasts, watch the latest design shows, and take free online courses to continually hone my craft and improve with each project.”

When asked what opportunities exist in the interior design industry, and how young people can get involved, she said there are numerous opportunities in the interior design industry.

“If you position yourself well and showcase your work. Attending exhibitions and interning can help build your skills. Self-learning is key to understanding your craft and finding your unique style.”

She highlighted the importance of understanding clients’ needs and budgets, saying, “understanding what is realistic for my clients is essential, allowing me to tailor their spaces to their budgets and expectations.”

As Nto Interiors continues to grow, Mathabela envisions her business poised for exponential growth. She hopes to impact the interior design industry by making luxurious and beautiful spaces accessible to everyone.

“Never underestimate your skills, even when feeling overwhelmed,” she advises aspiring interior designers and entrepreneurs.

“Strong interpersonal skills are crucial, and understanding key business functions like sales, marketing, and finance is essential to pricing your services correctly.”
