Community unites to transform Fourways

After years of neglect, a group of passionate residents and businesses are joining forces to restore Fourways to its former glory.

The Better Fourways initiative is calling on local businesses to join forces in making Fourways cleaner and safer. In a bid to restore the former glory of Fourways, a group of community-minded individuals and businesses have joined forces to drive an initiative aimed at transforming the neglected suburb.

The Better Fourways initiative, led by Raffaella Carnicelli, aims to tackle the area’s long-standing issues of litter, out-of-control weeds, and general decay.

The effort began when Carnicelli grew tired of witnessing the sad state of Fourways’s main roads, including Winnie Mandela Drive, Cedar Street, Uranium Street, and Witkoppen Roads.

With a vision to restore the area, Carnicelli called on fellow residents and businesses to join forces and create a better future for Fourways.

“We want to make our suburb shine again. We believe that by working together, we can create a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful community, where residents can take pride in their surroundings,” said Carnicelli.

The Better Fourways initiative is currently focusing on the main roads leading into the suburb, with plans to extend its efforts to smaller roads once the main areas are restored. The team is employing a variety of cleaning activities, including grass cutting, verge tidying, and litter removal.

The initiative has received strong support from local businesses and organisations, including the Lovemore Foundation and Lawncare Plus.

Lovemore Robson, the founder of the Lovemore Foundation and a partner in the Better Fourways initiative, emphasised the importance of keeping Fourways clean. “Our motive is simple, we want to keep our community clean and tidy. We can’t let litter and weeds take over our suburbs. It’s up to us to take ownership and make it a better place for everyone.”

Despite advertising, litter and illegal dumping remain significant challenges. To overcome these issues, the team has employed a full-time cleaner to maintain the area around the taxi rank.

“We’re grateful for the support of our sponsors, who are committed to fixing Fourways. We also recognise that property prices will be negatively impacted if we don’t take action now,” added Carnicelli.
