Broadacres Academy student’s kindness brings smiles to Pediatric Oncology Unit

A group of Broadacres Academy students brought comfort and joy to the young patients at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospitals Pediatric unit.

Grade 11 student leaders from Broadacres Academy recently visited the pediatric oncology unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, bringing with them a hug of teddy bears, collected during their Mother’s Day high tea event.

The initiative, carried out in partnership with Brave Hearts, an organisation dedicated to supporting children and families at the hospital, brought tears of joy, and smiles of happiness, to the faces of the young patients and their families.

The teddy bears, symbols of comfort and care, were warmly received by the children, who are bravely facing their battles with cancer. Brave Hearts, which works weekly with the children and their families at Baragwanath, was instrumental in organising the event.

The organisation’s continuous efforts in providing emotional support and care were complemented by the enthusiastic participation of the Broadacres Academy students.

The Grade 11 student leaders expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to give back to the community and make a difference in the lives of the children at the hospital. They reflected on the powerful impact of small acts of kindness and the importance of solidarity and empathy in times of need.
