World Bicycle Day celebrated

Preschoolers learn the benefits of cycling and promoting sustainable transportation

Curro Fourways campus celebrated World Bicycle Day, educating its learners about the numerous benefits of cycling. The initiative organised by Curro Sport aimed to promote a healthy and sustainable lifestyle among its young learners.

“The learners were taught by their teachers that cycling is not only good for the body and mind but also has numerous physical and mental benefits. These benefits include boosting mood, relieving stress, building muscle, improving balance and coordination, strengthening the immune system, and enhancing cardiovascular health,” said Kirsten Davie from Curro Sport.

To promote a safe and enjoyable cycling experience, the school set up a bicycle track with road signs around it. The learners were encouraged to wear their helmets, emphasising the importance of safety while riding.

Learners were encouraged to practise safety precautions while riding while the educator oversees everything. “Always wear a helmet, plan a safe route, be visible to others and pay attention, follow traffic rules, and use hand signals when turning or stopping.

“By promoting cycling and teaching children about safety, Curro Fourways aims to contribute to their overall well-being. The initiative highlights the importance of incorporating physical activity and outdoor learning into the curriculum.

“We believe that pedal power is the key to keeping our kids happy and healthy, by providing a safe and fun environment for our learners to learn and ride, we are helping them develop important skills that will benefit them for years to come,” said Davie.
