Despite challenges that come with age, John Griffin’s passion for photography continues to shine, inspiring new generations of photographers.

John Griffin; a passionate photographer with a lifelong love for capturing moments.

At the age of 76, John Griffin is still capturing the world around him with a passion that has been burning inside him for over 67 years. “My love for photography started when I was 10 years old when I was given a Kodak Brownie camera by my parents,” said Griffin.

Born and raised in Fourways, Griffin’s love for photography began at a young age. He was always fascinated by the way light and shadow could transform into a scene. He spent hours at the Johannesburg Zoo, taking pictures of the animals, which was then the start of a lifelong journey for Griffin.

However, life had other plans and Griffin ended up pursuing a career in marketing and advertising. After a successful career, Griffin traded his suit and tie for a camera and passion for photography. Photography is more than just a hobby; it is a journey of self-expression and discovery, said Griffin.

The digital age had brought about significant changes in the world of photography, and Griffin knew that he had to adapt quickly. “I spent hours learning about the new gear and software, as well as the challenges and opportunities presented by digital photography.” With a newfound understanding of the medium, Griffin became professional and began specialising in people, pets, and equestrian photography.

Today, his portfolio includes a wide range of subjects– from events, landscapes, seascapes, animals, and birds. He also offers basic photographic training and advice to others who are looking to pick up a hobby or improve their skills.
“Photography can be a wonderful hobby for people approaching retirement age.”
