Fourways cyclists participate in thrilling road classic

Ivan Lubinsky relives his experience after the road classic race.

Ivan Lubinsky, an avid cyclist recently took part in the thrilling Emperors Palace Road Classic.

According to him, there was no way he was going to miss out on the action, so he quickly reached out to the event organiser via Facebook to get all the details after coming across the post.

The race, dubbed as ‘The Race of Dreams’, was a highly anticipated event that attracted more than 2 000 cycling enthusiasts. The participants were given the option of choosing between two routes: a challenging 98km route or an easier 48km ride.

At the start of the race, which was held outside the gates of the East Rand resort and casino, a sizeable group of riders, including Lubinsky and Warwick Brummer, gathered to begin their journey.

Lubinsky and Brummer are both Fourways residents and were eager to test their cycling skills against their fellow riders.

The duo pushed themselves to their limits, spurred on by the cheers and support of the crowd that lined the route as they participated in the gruelling 98km race.

Lubinsky said the race was a true test of skill and endurance, but he gave it his all and reached the finish line at 02:41:40. Brummer on the other hand finished in 2:45:30

Lubinsky said even though he is satisfied with his record time, he still wishes to do a little better than that.

The 58-year-old is grateful for the experience. “The race was great, well organised and very fast. The marshals were great as well as the police. Parking was great at Emperors Palace and easy access from the highway. Restaurants were easy to access and food was great. I will do this race again. I did not face any challenges everything went smoothly.”

He said what made the race even more fun is the fact that it was well-organised and got to interact with nice groups of people.
