Beaulieu College strikes gold In The Heights

The school play was choreographed by acclaimed thespians who delivered a red carpet-worthy extravaganza.

Beaulieu College hosted a production based on the book In the heights by Alegria Hudes. It was performed from March 12 to 17.
According to marketing manager Lesego Tyebileyo, “The story takes place over three days as we follow the lives of the members of a Latin-American community trying to make a better future for themselves and their children in the neighbourhood of Washington.”

She explained that the neighbourhood is a melting pot of Cuban, Dominican, Puerto Rican and Mexican immigrants who face the daily battle of integrating into the American culture and economy, while desperately trying to preserve their own culture and heritage.

“The community tells an inspiring story of hope, heritage and healing love.”

The production cast Beaulieu College learners who were ready to showcase their skills and talent on stage. The director of the production, Carly Graeme, studied at the Guildford School of Acting in the UK and graduated with an honour’s degree in musical theatre.
