Mrs SA Finalist Terisa gives back as she turns 40

Forty is the new 20 for Terisa Hsu-Lee who chose to give back to the community on her special day.

Mrs SA finalist Terisa Hsu-Lee killed two birds with one stone when she celebrated both her 40th birthday and giving back to the community.

Hsu-Lee turned her birthday into a public event. She said she did this to raise funds for the South African Animal Cancer Association which was a success because she cares about animal welfare.

The evening was full of glitz and glamour with a dramatic cake-smash moment and good music. The event was held at Old French Duckie restaurant in Pineslopes.

She was intentional about her aspirations to give back when she entered the competition. She recalled, “I want to showcase myself to the world and I believe women from all walks of life should pursue their dreams. My background, age or ethnicity are not hindrances from who I wish to become. My dream is to shatter glass ceilings, make history and leave a legacy of becoming the first #Southafricanese to ever become a Mrs SA.

“I walked away from a highly rated international TV show in 2021 and wanted to align myself with something that is an extension of what I stand for. The Mrs SA platform is so much more than a competition; it is an empowerment platform that gives every married woman between the ages of 25–55 an opportunity to grow and be empowered while giving back and empowering others.”

She said over R10 000 was raised through ticket sales, raffles and an auction of a three-set art creation by her children. The event was attended by the who’s who, such as Nakedi Ribane, Samad Davis, and Galston Anthony, as well as Hsu-Lee’s friends, family, and supporters.

She added that she is in it to win the coveted crown. “For me to win the title is not just about winning for myself and the legacy I want to leave behind for my children and my future generations. It is a win for all the women who have a dream, the non-profits I represent, raising awareness of mental health, GBV, the menstrual cup as the third-period option, animal welfare, climate change, and my deep passion for building entrepreneurship and promoting our South African talent to the world.”
