In an effort to continue assisting the police to keep residents safe, the nominations and elections will take place later this month.

A sector crime forum meeting aimed at reducing crime in some of the Fourways areas will take place at Kyalami Country Club on October 23.

The meeting of the Midrand CPF, which covers large parts of the Fourways Review distribution area including the following areas: Kyalami AH, Kyalami AH Ext 1, Glenferness AH, Treesbank AH, Kleve AH, Beaulieu, Witpoort, Knopjeslaagte, Saddlebrook Estate, Bridle Park AH, Sun Valley (Blue Hills AH), Blue Hills, Kyalami Park, and Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit.

Residents are encouraged to nominate people within their communities for the following positions: chairperson, the deputy chairperson, the secretary, the deputy secretary, the PRO and the patrol co-ordinator.

Sector crime forums are an integral part of a healthy and efficient CPF.

Chairperson of the Sector Four Crime Forum Anton van Niekerk says, “The roles ask a lot of a person’s free time and can be very challenging. Yet the reward in knowing that one has made one society and community a little safer, assisted the SAPS in being a little more efficient, knowing that just one person’s day is better because of the role we play is a great reward indeed.”

Nominees must avail themselves regarding the roles, duties and functions for the position(s) they are nominated. All completed nomination and acceptance forms must be signed by the proposer (nomination) and the nominee (acceptance).

“There are a few important points to bear in mind when considering a person for a role in the Sector Crime Forum (SCF) of the Midrand CPF. Firstly, the position is held for five years. So, the person needs to be willing to hold a role or position for a significant amount of time. Secondly, this is a completely voluntary role, there is no remuneration for your time or service in any way. No matter how many hours you put in, or the risk the role presents, there is no remuneration. If valid costs are incurred and reimbursement for these costs has been agreed upon beforehand by the executive and there are funds available then, upon presentation of a valid invoice/receipt, these costs may be remunerated.”

“Some of the roles played can put you at risk. If you are working with the police at a roadblock for instance you have to be aware of the potential risks and be prepared to take those risks. One gets exposed to some disturbing crimes and information, and one has to be able to process those instances and not be unduly affected by them. Over a five-year term, one will be exposed to all manner of things, and one has to determine beforehand what one’s role and the scope of engagement will be.  When considering a person for the role, see if they are able to sacrifice their time and energy on a regular basis in order to be able to serve their community and greater area in a functional and effective way. Do they have the mindset to be non-judgemental, non-racist, non-sexist, and have no prejudices as all sectors of society need to be served and assisted without fear or favour? Is that person honest and reliable?”
