Sunninghill Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Dojo shines at the South African national karate tournament.

Sunninghill Funakoshi Shotokan Karate Dojo (FSK), a renowned karate school, recently made waves at the national karate championships, bringing home an impressive haul of medals and securing a coveted spot in the upcoming world karate championships in Germany.

With a contingent of 20 enthusiastic karateka and two experienced senseis, the dojo’s students showcased their exceptional skills and determination at the national competition. The team’s hard work and dedication paid off, as they clinched an outstanding total of 20 silver medals and 11 bronze medals across various divisions.

Its success extends beyond individual performances. In the team kata events for the junior and cadet divisions, the dojo’s karatekas demonstrated remarkable management, technique and teamwork. Ultimately, clinching gold medals in both categories. The team’s exceptional performance in these events further highlighted their prowess in the sport.

Sensei Rajen Moodley and sensei Nad Naicker the head instructor at FSK congratulated all the participants who competed in the event.

“The students showed great sportsmanship through discipline, courage, and sheer determination in something that took them well outside their comfort zones. It was not easy with students really having to be on their top game to place,” said Moodley.

Sensei Moodley expressed immense pride in the accomplishments of their students. He commended their dedication, perseverance, and unwavering commitment to the art of karate.

The team is eagerly gearing up for the global stage, intensifying their training and refining their outstanding track record and determination, they want to make their mark and bring more glory to their dojo, and country, at the world championship.
