The ANNA Awards prize winner is Nada Baraka, a Cairo-based artist who makes paintings that maintain an endless, active state of flux, swaying between abstract and surreal with her evocative application and vivid colours. Baraka seeks to generate forms in new contexts as a means to challenge and deconstruct the obvious, and tease meaning out of absurdity.

This year the ANNA Audience Award winner is Buqaqawuli Nobakada.

ANNA Award’s Nina Carew felt honoured to crown the winner on Women’s Day as their main aim is to celebrate women artists that show extraordinary originality, imagination, and dedication in their creative careers while they encourage a culture of inclusivity and connection. “This year all the contestants offered fresh voices and have already made their mark on the continent and beyond. The award offers a space to reflect society back to us by bringing light to women’s stories. Latitudes and ANNA are proud and would like to continue working hard to shine a light on talent on the continent while fostering an ethos of inclusivity, which connects them all,” Carew said.
