Successful clean-up efforts in Kya Sand

Under the leadership of Ward 115 councillor Mark van der Merwe, ongoing clean-up efforts have been carried out in Kya Sand in Region E.

Under the leadership of Ward 115 councillor Mark van der Merwe, ongoing clean-up efforts have been carried out in Kya Sand, a community in Region E. These initiatives, organised by the Augmented Field Service (AFS) team, have successfully addressed service delivery challenges in the area.

Ward 115 councillor Mark van der Merwe said, “We have a team of five individuals from Kya Sand and one manager. Their responsibility is covered by a department that falls under Citizen Relationship and Urban Management (CRUM) in Region E. The department is called AFS. Their job is to fill the gaps between the various entities, for example, they do grass cutting and litter picking where they work with different entities to fill those gaps. They are not only allocated to Kya Sand, but they also service all of Ward 115.”

By coordinating efforts and collaborating with relevant stakeholders, the team aims to ensure effective communication, efficient resource allocation, and timely execution of projects to improve the overall living conditions in the area.

Assistant director of CRUM Pierre Nel said, “This is an ongoing process, it happens every single day. Once per quarter, for example, four times per year, each inspector arranges a multi-departmental campaign in the ward. Various departments and entities are invited to converge on a ward to address urgent issues. About two years ago, the city created the AFS Department. The staff of this department travel through the region daily and do the cleaning of streets, parks, and council facilities.”

The clean-up operation was a success in Kya Sand.

The accomplishment of the clean-up efforts in Kya Sand can be attributed to the combined efforts of the AFS team, Van der Merwe’s management and the support provided by the AFS department. Through their collective dedication and commitment, they have identified and addressed key issues affecting the community, such as waste management, infrastructure maintenance, and public safety.
